Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her for the town she grew up in. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's mother and father have both been Jewish. Ryder believes herself to be Jewish. She has two younger half-siblings, Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's family moved from Mendocino County to California when she was 7 years old. In those days, there was no electricity. Ryder became an avid read because they had no television. Ryder started taking acting classes at American Conservatory Theatre when she turned 12 years old. Lucas was dismissed in the year 1986, and Ryder who was just 15 years old, was offered a role as a leading actress. Ryder was bullied in the high school. Ryder hoped her acting career would change this. Sadly that didn't happen. It didn't stop her from making plans for her future. It was 1988 the year that Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that gave her her first big break. Ryder was later cast in numerous roles that were successful. She was nominated for two Academy Awards one for her role on The Age of Innocence (1993).
